Cancer Handling Report From A Cancer Teacher
(note: soon to come is the full Handling Cancer Report To Buy. This is its flagship article written throughout last night)
Issues: …understanding your cancer condition … making informed choices … saving your life if possible … getting the right doctors to help … getting the very best treatments to help … thinking well about your own situation …
INTRODUCTION
Good morning. I am your cancer teacher. I have lung cancer myself. It was just five months ago the home doctor called me into her office and said matter-of-factly that the x-ray she sent me to the hospital to get shows I have a lung tumor. The pulmonary specialist has read my x-ray. There is the tumor that I later find out is 10 cm wide, a large one, too large maybe to operate on.
- They want to do two days of tests on ME right away. The doctor asks, shall I schedule you in?
I don’t feel in shock yet, though as a retired professor in psychology I can imagine that I am in shock, that I am a little too objective taking this all in. My partner, Stefania, is by my side but this is new for her also.
I am now named a cancer person. It’s hard to find the right term. I don’t like being called a cancer victim. That seems to negative for me.
Thus begins my cancer journey.
Now what I offer you through my writings on my StrephonSays.com/blog/ and this and other reports coming up for sale is to become your cancer teacher.
I realized only today that after all the learning I have been through with four doctors so far, and some more tests, such as the PET and CAT scans so they can see the tumor and if the cancer has spread elsewhere in my body that I have experiential knowledge I did not have five months ago at the time of my diagnosis.
For the doctors wanted to do more tests to diagnose me as something like stage three of cancer in which the cancer is pretty much localized in the lower lung tumor and may have spread just a little to a lymph node nearby.
But the doctors like to know if the cancer is spreading to my brain, my liver, and so on.
The Cancer Teacher
It’s all so bewildering at first. The reason I realized that I have become a cancer teacher through my own case, is that I did not have a cancer teacher when I started out on this cancer journey the five months ago when first diagnosed by x-ray that I had lung cancer.
Back then the doctor knows everything, but through my intelligent questions I find out she, the doctor, does not know that much either, and she even admits so that she does not know that much about cancer.
That’s why I am going to the cancer specialist at the university pulmonary department where they deal with people like me.
High school kids and college students get teachers to help them learn the skills they need to enter adult life and have a good job that earns them money they can live on in their lives.
Education is everything in modern life. You must learn to drive and other skills, like learning carpentry so you can have a construction job when someone, like my neighbor across the street wants to build him and his wife a nice house.
I had never been seriously in a hospital in my life up until age 75 and my birthday. We talked at first about dying. I would be brave. The doctor specialist talked about how good her hospital was. I brought up going to a hospice to die. She said there were some good ones, and my partner could spend quality time with me there when she had the chance.
- My God, I realized. I was getting secretly morbid already. I was preparing to die. But what if I could live on in a creative life, just as I was doing now?
See how the process begins to work? The x-rays don’t lie. You have cancer. But there is a lot more to it.
-What are my chances of living through this? you ask the doc. She says 15% are alive 5 years later out of 100. She has 52 patients she works with she proudly tells me, whereas my home doctor will only have on average of about two cancer patients.
Hey, this is busy business …
The reason through for this report is I can be at least one of your cancer teachers because I have been through part of the process in great detail. I am already a retired professional therapist and consultant. I do know how to understand and teach people what they need to do to solve their life challenges.
While young people have teachers assigned to them to guide them through a process it turns out that for the older folk like myself we are given no cancer teachers to help us understand our life-threatening cancer situations.
Who then can we turn to?
For me I offer you reading on my StrephonSays.com/bog/ but buying also the full report here, of which this is only the introduction. Knowledge is needed, as I well know!
It turns out that I needed help, I needed a cancer teacher to explain what happened in the 15 minutes I had with the doctor. I have found that it is not ethical to withhold information from people going through their dying process, but the doctors do stop telling you what you think you want and need to know. We don’t want to scare you, they say.
There just isn’t time time to tell the truth and the full truth, so help you, God.
Take me on then. I have been a teacher all my life, as well as a consultant. Now I am being forced to learn all about my lung cancer, what it is, what doctoring is available and not available, and if I have much chance to live through having lung cancer.
My God, what key points to know if you are diagnosed with cancer!
I can tell you that both my home doctor and the lung specialist at the university were not forthcoming and absolutely real with me. I asked for the symptoms that I might experience that I am getting worse. I did not get these symptoms.
I asked what medications I would be taking and what they would do to me? I did not get these medications explained. I did not even get some medications.
I tried to find out what makes for a good doctor or two in my case. I had no experience in deciding this. I had no experienced cancer teacher to help me with this problem. Society here does not provide me with an experienced cancer teacher to help me through the process of relating to doctors, to information about my cancer, to what medications I need to handle my symptoms.
The plain fact that in the fifteen minutes or so I have with a real doctor I am supposed to know the questions to ask them. I do take a hour or so ahead of time to write down my questions and make a copy for the doctor. This helps me keep the focus in my time together with the expert, but they never keep my questions for the file.
I learn that a doctor has two primary functions. One function is to provide medication to relieve the symptoms I am already suffering. The other doctor function is to educate me in the kind of cancer I have and the treatments available to me, when to do them, which is always now, and what the possible outcomes are going to be, which they uniformly will not tell you, I think because the outcomes of cancer treatment are so bad, certainly in lung cancer cases.
The only people I know with successful cancer treatment are the males who have been operated on for prostrate cancer, a diagnosis of cancer that can be gotten early.
The prostrate gland is a nut shaped gland that contracts at sexual climax to shoot out your sperm and other fluids. It surrounds the urethra inside you and enlarges in cancer and cuts off the urethra so you can’t piss in the night when you need to.
My tennis friend a few years back had such an emergency and the least competent doctor probably of the clinic tried to force a rubber catheter up his penis urethra to unblock the passage so he could pee again, imagine the pressure to pee after several hours. She bungled the job and later apologized. He was taken to the emergency hospital where a surgeon cut into the pelvic area a bit, bypassing the penis, and inserted a catheter at a different spot and freed his urine flow.
This incident impacted me because I had the same doctor who failed my tennis friend. As I got worse from my lung cancer, would she be taking care of me and would she be competent? I brought up the tennis friend’s incident. I had decisions to make.
LESSON FROM YOUR CANCER TEACHER, ME, IF YOU ACCEPT MY ADVICE: IT IS YOUR BODY. YOU HAVE EVERY RIGHT TO SEEK THE BEST HEALTH CARE EXPERTS POSSIBLE TO GUIDE YOU THROUGH YOUR ORDEALS. ASSERT YOUR RIGHTS, PLEASE.
I WAS AFRAID. I WAITED UNTIL MY JUDGED INCOMPETENT DOCTOR WENT ON VACATION FOR A MONTH AND THEN GOT ANOTHER DOCTOR IN THE CLINIC AND EVEN ANOTHER DOCTOR AFTER THAT.
YOU HAVE TO ASSERT YOURSELF NICELY SOMETIMES.
I was afraid also because all this was so new to me, and because I have sometimes been a coward in the past. But this happened also for me.
MAKE YOURSELF STRONGER AND STRONGER AS YOU DEAL WITH YOURSELF AND WITH DOCTORS.
As I have written, some days with the symptoms from the cancer and the medication I felt so weak and wobbly, yet my mind was going. So, on a few days I simply have had to assert what will power I could to move around, to make a simple meal, and so on.
WILL POWER IS THE ABILITY TO ASSERT PERSONAL DIRECTION FOR YOURSELF NO MATTER WHAT SEEMS TO STAND IN THE WAY, LIKE FATIGUE, FEAR, DEPRESSION, LACK OF RESOURCES, AND SO ON.
The next doctor I had a fifteen minute appointment with was male and decisive. Turned out he had recovered from prostate cancer two years earlier. He had been allowed by his insurance company to go to the best surgeon in Germany next door to the Netherlands to use this German surgeon who used a new procedure that was less invasive.
He said that cutting out the cancer from the prostrate is a dangerous operation because the nerves there can easily be damaged and when you are damaged you no longer can keep from spontaneously pissing when you want to. You, an adult male, have to wear a diaper all the time. You may also not be able to get erections anymore and have a sex life. So imagine giving yourself over to the the operating table and hoping for the best. This physician I talked to told me all this.
A SHORT COURSE IN DEALING WITH FEAR IN LIFE
A lot could be said about dealing with fear, but here is the essence as this psychologist sees it. BE EXISTENTIAL. Fear is seeing what could go wrong and getting upset as if it is going wrong.
Fear is intuition of a future possibility for some destructiveness. We can get medical insurance and keep paying the premium in case we really get sick in the future so that we don’t have to sell the house to pay medical expenses.
But insurance goes only so far, but it often helps. If you don’t prepare for scary things going wrong then you create ongoing anxiety for yourself, which is itself debilitating.
The doctor who went to Germany for his prostate operation chose the best doctor and style of operation to give him the best chance for full recovery. He cut down the odds of being damaged or destroyed. This is converting ones fear into action.
WHEN YOU CAN CONVERT FEAR INTO AN ACTION PLAN THAT REDUCES THE DESTRUCTIVENESS YOU ARE AFRAID OF.
Fear as perception of possible destructiveness can tell me that while my specialist doctor wants to operate on my lung cancer at age 75 I do not want this to happen. Then it becomes a numbers game. Will I live longer and in good health if the operation is done? The specialist could not guarantee it. Her 15% success rate to the trained math guy me from my psychology courses was simply too low to be worth the risk to me. The doctor specialist’s point of view seemed to be to operate because that is what she is good at. However, if I die or debilitate further under the knife, she loses nothing and I lose everything.
When you judge your chances for success or failure always remember who is paying the price if the operation is a failure. You are, not your doctors. My doctor might have a few words for me as I die or whatever, but her job immunizes her to feel the consequences of losing near hopeless patients anyway.
As your ‘cancer teacher’ it is my job to tell you these things but to let you alone in what you do about them and how you choose. It is your choice entirely and you take the consequences, just as I must do in my own cancer case.
FEAR INDICATES THE REAL DANGER BUT IT CAN ALSO BE A PROJECTION OF INNER FEARS BASED ON PAST TRAUMATIC EXPERIENCES.
Try and sort these out. Try and sort out the difference between past fears projected and current fears real to real situations.
IN THE END YOU MAKE A CHOICE TO GO THROUGH THE DANGEROUS PROCEDURE OR NOT TO GO THROUGH IT. IT IS YOUR CHOICE ALONE. IN LIFE WHAT WE CHOOSE IS WHAT WE BECOME.
If you decide to go through a risky operation, be as certain about what you are doing as possible. You have asked, what are my chances, whether you get a realistic answer or not. Then to minimize further fear and anxiety, give over to the situation and let go to the doctors and see what happens. In a sense, give up your life at that moment of going into the risky operation. You are in the hands of others now. Say goodbye to your loved ones. We all die anyway sooner or later. Try not to stay in fear and anxiety because these tension states might just make things harder for you. See yourself coming through the operation if you like. Just let go to the situation as it is as completely as possible, knowing that life is imperfect but people are still trying to do their best with you, assuming you have tried to pick the best health care workers possible.
THUS WE MOVE FROM FEAR TO CHOICE. WE DECIDE ONE WAY OR ANOTHER ON A DIFFICULT SITUATION AND WE GIVE OURSELVES TO THE DIFFICULT CHOICE THAT WE HAVE MADE.
I did not have prostrate cancer because the scans did not reveal any, or the blood tests. Besides I have kept pumping out sperm for years, believing that I must use the prostrate organ and other sexual apparatus or things are likely to go wrong there. I have a sexual partner but we can’t just schedule sex in like anything else. Now the liberal Netherlands has a tv channel with couples sometimes making love there. If their activity seems at all genuine and reminds me of my own sexual past then I have have sexual orgasm and sexual release of my prostrate gland. God knows what other men do but the media does not report such sexual caring activity for men to be sure and do.
These things I have to figure out for myself. The doctors don’t have time to explain everything. There are no regular cancer teachers as a regular survive.
My report to you here is written up as teaching information to help you in your own cancer journey and you should use it well to make informed choices and feel better about yourself.
MY NEW DOCTOR BY THE WAY SAW QUICKLY WHEN I TOLD HIM THAT MY FIRST DOCTOR NOW ON VACATION WAS INCOMPETENT.
She consulted the pharmacist who himself prescribed a too strong dote of DEX 4.5 mg once a day. This produced big cold sweats at night when my bed and mattress was literally soaked and upon waking I felt panicky and dizzy.
My new, if temporary doctor, prescribed a smaller dose of DEX, 1.5 mg that still controlled the tumor inflammation so I no longer had all those violent coughings in the day that also were so scary. I could only say half a sentence sometimes or I would start coughing.
The new male doctor who himself had had cancer two years earlier gave me also a sleeping pill at night because I was not sleeping. Imagine trying to live on two to three hours sleep at night? Now I get at least four our five hours of sleep throughout the day or night.
I TELL YOU ALL THIS, AND HAVE PUT IT ON MY BLOG FOR OTHERS SO THAT YOU KNOW TO ACT IN YOUR OWN BEHALF WHEN YOU RECEIVE THAT DIAGNOSIS OF CANCER. HERE I EMPHASIZE LUNG CANCER, THE WORST TYPE OF CANCER TO HAVE APPARENTLY.
I SAY TO YOU DIRECTLY WHEN YOU HAVE A LIFE-THREATENING CONDITION ESPECIALLY TRY AND GIVE UP ANY DOCTOR YOU DON’T TRUST AND GET TO A COMPETENT DOCTOR YOU DO TRUST.
NOT ALL DOCTORS ARE THAT COMPETENT. GET TO A GOOD DOCTOR BEFORE YOU ACTUALLY NEED HIM.
FOR ME THE GOOD DOCTORS TURNED OUT TO BE MALE DOCTORS BECAUSE THEY WERE DECISIVE AND DID THEIR JOBS WELL. THE TWO WOMEN DOCTORS WERE COMPASSIONATE AND WILLING TO GIVE ME MORE DOCTOR TIME IN OUR SESSIONS BUT BY THE END OF THE SESSION NOTHING HAD HAPPENED. I WAS NOT BETTER INFORMED OR BETTER MEDICATED. I WAS ASKED SIMPLY TO GO ALONG WITH THE UNIVERSITY HOSPITAL TREATMENT PLAN THEY ALREADY USED.
BUT WHAT WERE THE RESULTS OF THEIR TREATMENT PLANS? NOT VERY GOOD I FOUND OUT. PEOPLE I KNEW WERE GOING TO GERMANY FOR TREATMENT AND THEY HAD A GOOD SURGEON IN BELGIAN THAT THE TENNIS PLAYERS TALKED ABOUT AS BEING THE BEST.
See why you and I need Cancer Teachers. The doctors do not have enough time for us and want to keep us to treat themselves.
YOU ARE THE CANCER PATIENT. IT IS YOUR RESPONSIBILITY TO GET THE VERY BEST TREATMENT POSSIBLE BECAUSE IT DOES MAKE A DIFFERENCE.
You don’t want to become incontinent from cancer prostrate surgery, do you? You don’t want to die right away because some surgeon made the wrong decision to operate on your lung cancer, do you?
These are the hard decisions to make for you but you alone make them and take the consequences. Fact, fact, fact …
NOW YOU HAVE OTHER DECISIONS LOOMING BEFORE YOU, WHICH I MYSELF, AS ONE OF YOUR CANCER TEACHERS, IS ALSO FACING.
DO I DO ALTERNATIVE, OR ARE THE ALTERNATIVE PEOPLE ALL CHARLATANS OUT TO EXPLOIT THE THOUSANDS OF CANCER SUFFERERS WHO BELIEVE THEY ARE NOT RECEIVING HELP FROM THE REGULAR MEDICAL ESTABLISHMENT?
I as one of your Cancer Teachers are pointing out these choice points to you which I also have to face. That is what a cancer teacher does. A cancer teacher does not tell you what to do. A cancer teacher, if you can find a good one accompanies you to the doctor if possible and then has a session with you after to clarify what you both think the doctor was really saying, and then what choices you need to make about the doctor and treatment for you out of the short meeting you had with your cancer specialist doctor.
You want to make an informed decision, don’t you, and live with it?
Well, this cancer teacher is here to help. I am a cancer teacher because already of have been a terrific psychology teacher, so say most students, and now I am learning fast what the issues and decisions are in this my new cancer area.
I don’t make decisions for you because I am only competent in how to make effective decisions that benefit you in life.
I do not make decisions for you about medical information and the best way to go. I may clarify alternatives with you, so you are clear to go either way on certain treatment decisions.
A book I just bought off the internet says give up the cancer treatments when you can from the regular doctors. These treatments inevitably hurt your immune system. go with the natural treatments he suggests because they all enhance the immune system and this fact alone can make the difference between living well or dying poorly.
But as your Cancer Teacher through studying this report I have made up out of my own current experiences I give you a clear view that there are alternatives to the orthodox view of medicine and its treatment options.
However, also as your cancer teacher I am supposed to stay neutral. Why don’t I just say, go with good alternative treatment people. They hold the better way, they make the better claims for positive treatment outcomes.
Maybe they do and I personally am making certain decisions this way. However, for you I state categorically that using alternative treatment over conventional medical treatment does seem to have results but we don’t know how accurate they are or how true they are in reality.
I have already been through one charlatan in the alternative health field, who wrote back when I canceled our next appointment, what have I done wrong?
Everything, my friend. You do not explain to me what you were doing and what results you were getting. Yo sent electricity through my whole body without first getting my permission. This is enough of a violation of my rights that I should not let it happen to my being, and … please buy the full report now and read and study it. I have aimed to give you hours of my experiences and perspectives.
These have got to be useful for you and help keep you from being depressed because of medications and all the decisions you have to make regarding your case.
