Metaphorical Healing – A Crucial Method For Healing

Issues: …serious sickness … illness without physical cures alone … healing the core … core metaphor … rebalancing the psyche …

Right now as a lung cancer ‘patient’ sharing my daily struggles on my blog I keep applying the method of consciousness which I have been teaching and practicing most of my middle adult life.

Consciousness: experience fully but mostly in a context of balance and wholeness. Become, be, aware of what you are experiencing inside yourself as you are experiencing all your moments of existence.

Process your awareness of these experiences and how you choose to react to them, and even process to see where significant experiences, positive and negative, may be taking you.

  • For this you need to discover your personal myth, your core archetypes at work in you and in your life.

My Day Today

Right now as a lung cancer experiencer I am having a bit of a strange day. I have these last few days had a lot of creative energy and ideas compared to a couple of weeks before that where I have intense symptoms from the cancer maybe and the new stronger medication to control the phlegm and the coughing bouts it was producing.

I have these dynamics to sort out, if I can.

  1. How much, and what is happening, of my body-mind state is due to cancer functioning?
  2. How much of what is happening in me is due to medications and their adjustments?
  3. How much and what is due to expressing creative energy in my projects?
  4. How much of my bodily symptoms is due to some core process at work in me?
  5. How much and what is due to my bio-state, as conditioned by the foods I eat and the medications and healing substances I take?
  6. What is due to how I handle my stress levels?
  7. What is the spiritual or ultimate destiny at work in me and my life now?

Core Process and Being

The reason we focus on metaphorical healing here, my term, is that my recent insight is that at the core of my being is an archetype activated. This is the core function, bodily, spiritually, and psychologically around which all my energy and awareness should express itself in life, the repository of the life force in me.

The key metaphor expresses this core function, how it best should function, and how it is functioning.

Practical Questions

Should I rest a lot? Should I govern what I am eating for max effect? What should I focus on during periods of my day? What are the stresses of the day evoking? What is the rebalancing’ needed? How can I was ego choice and awareness help a healing process at the core really work?

  • The metaphor that fits the individual and the group has a dominating effect when used by a leader or healer or dictator in politics.

Soldiers are prepared for war by the military training that gives them images, uniforms, attitudes, sayings, rituals, challenge-experiences, as well as skills in fighting.

  • In the same way as one experiencing cancer, what am I experiencing and what is my training needed to handle the experience of cancer?

Is there a complete training for cancer people like there is a complete training for military people?

No, there is not! I have to compile it myself through research, decisions and getting professionals to help me. Which ones depends on their reputations as healers, on their methods for work, on their perspective, on their ‘fit’ to the ill person, here, me.

  • Core metaphors create context.

My alternative practitioner asked me the question they often ask in the alternative healing movement: What is causing your cancer, do you think? How are you responsible for your cancer?

I call this also searching for the metaphor that fits the experience I am having now in my life with my body.

  • Get the metaphor right and you synch with the state of your core archetypes activated.

Maybe my ego view of what is going on is unconscious, unbalanced, distorted, and so this makes the core archetype the same?

If I find the healing metaphor as the way to restructure my being into a healing process, then I can more likely heal. Right?

So asking how am I causing my own cancer, can be part of the process I need to do to ‘right the balance.’

Can anyone help me with what my core metaphor might be that I need to activate with awareness, which is consciousness?

We look at metaphors as an image-concept that expresses dynamics and the ego’s relation to those dynamics.

  1. Images?
  2. Attitudes?
  3. Life Principles?
  4. Context?
  5. Core?
  6. Life context?
  7. Structure of the day?

Identifications with images and attitudes that pull me outside myself, or otherwise make me more unconscious than I normally am?

  1. Power images?
  2. Power concepts that motivate to action?
  3. Motivation?
  4. Unresolved strong experiences?
  5. Shift?

Question: What Do You Do With All This?

Many call it the immune system, but we lay people don’t know enough about what this is to ‘do the right thing’ regarding our symptoms and core being.

Thus: what is my core metaphor now for my condition to regain balance and end serious sickness?

Any suggestions?

Today I posted a healing poem just written to use daily and nightly before bed, which is made of metaphorical images that I hope go together rightly to evoke the proper healing for me.

Bob Silverstein, my former agent-friend, sent me the healing poem he wrote and used when he had serious cancer now in remission ten years and counting.

I liked his poem also and it gave me a sense of healing and shifts possible.

But then the inner voice said, write your own also.

And I did!

Any perspectives to share, experiences, metaphors, and so on?

This is my project of the moment for myself on my working with my condition.
