Little Dialogue With A Phone Invader
The phone rings. Fortunately I am not writing at the moment.I lift the phone: hello
Hello and a bunch of Dutch comes over.
Are you an advertising executive, I ask.
Yes, I am, she says, switching to English.
Are you sure you have the right country?
No answer in the moment.
We are very poor here, I say. Could you please send us 100 euro? We need it very badly …
Ok, says she. I know, I know, and the conversation ends.
This is a new approach I haven’t used before. Partner and I have been saying, please don’t call us. Take us off your list. Supposedly there is a law against calling if a person says no calls, but it doesn’t work for us. They keep calling.
- It won’t make me mad because I feel ineffective if I can use my creativity well in the moment.
This time I use reverse thinking. She tries to sell me something. Why not I try and sell her something?
Send me that 100 euro, please. I need it so badly!
Here’s the trick. Weaken her motivation to do her job. She tries to get you to give her money. You make it direct and try and get her to give you money.
The spiritual or universal principle to practice is ‘balance the energy,’ or in this case, ‘counterbalance the energy.’
If you don’t you could feel you have lost by this invasion and disrespect this sales person shows in using your phone.
Get them one better. Invade their mind. Make it uncomfortable. Don’t swear at them or act angry and just hang up. They are used to that and have defenses set up to handle these typical responses.
You want to do something creative that penetrates their mind because they have no experience of it and no defense system to it that lets them keep invading people’s lives, and for what? You want them to remember.
Maybe this sales person will quit sooner than later this disgusting job?
Who knows? I am surrounded by three neighbors who let their dogs bark outside, at least for a couple of minutes. Maybe my former protests have let them know that this is invasive into other people’s lives so they let their dogs bark and then stop them later. But they don’t stop. They still invade mine and other people’s spaces.
This is what little people do: show off their power. It takes a barking dog to show who’s boss.
You can’t assert yourself so you use your dog to do it, to poo in other people’s faces. (there goes a barking dog right now)
What do you do inside your heart and mind when you are invaded?
Hopefully not repress and ignore …
