Dream Of The Ritual Challah Jewish Heritage
Issues - Jewish roots … ancestors archetypes … Russia mother country … dream feeling life … grief expressed … Challah …
In the dream it was vivid enough that I started crying. I went to the Jewish bakery in my area and saw that some old ladies were buying the holiday Challah, a Jewish custom.
When it came my turn I ordered one also. They where in Challah shape, fulsome and filed with raisins and chipped almonds and other things. I told the older Jewish backer that my father came from Russia and I started crying as I said this. Others looked at me in the bakery. It was so emotional for me.
Realizing what was happening I woke up. I had a profound grief dream. I also at last cried the grief of my father’s dying, which I could not do at the time of his own death and funeral at my age thirty.

It makes sense. I think about how my daughter, Alison, lived and worked in New York City, and made contact with Abe, my father’s brother, only to be told that he had too many relatives now and could not handle one more. I think she blames me to this day.
It’s one of my sins of not fully fulfilling the father role for her, and she does not take my sins lightly. I was in Europe. I included her in California when we visited my cousin Paul on special holidays and Bar Mitzvahs for his three boys.
Paul used to love my enthusiasm in dancing. I guess he could see the ancestors, as I could see the ancestors in his warm and steady ways.
